Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questionsDo you want to know which organisations are involved in the Scotland’s Environment partnership, or have you wondered why this new website been constructed and what special information it may contain, or are you interested in getting involved with or becoming part of Scotland’s Environment?

Then hopefully those topics and more will be answered here amongst our Frequently Asked Questions.

A wide range of organisations are involved in monitoring Scotland’s environment. These organisations develop their own monitoring and reporting strategies designed to deliver their individual functions.

Information on Scotland’s environment is scattered across a wide range of websites in differing formats. As a result, it is difficult to bring together the monitoring information collected by different organisations and develop a coherent understanding of the condition of Scotland’s environment, the pressures on the environment and what we are doing to address these.

The intention is that Scotland’s Environment Web brings together information on Scotland’s environment so that it is easily available and in a suitable form for all users. It will be the first place that anyone would choose to look for reliable and accurate information on Scotland’s environment from known and trusted sources.

A wide range of organisations are involved in monitoring Scotland’s environment. These organisations develop their own monitoring and reporting strategies designed to deliver their individual functions. Information on Scotland’s environment is, therefore, scattered across a wide range of websites in differing formats.

There is nowhere else where multiple partners’ environmental data and reports are accessible and can be looked at in combination.

SEPA is responsible for the provision and ongoing maintenance of the website, but the ownership, updating and maintenance of datasets and reports rests with the organisations that are providing them and making them available to users through Scotland’s Environment Web.

For more information from an individual partner organisation, please go to our partners page.

We will be developing the capacity of the site to support projects that we need your help with. We hope to involve you in providing data and observations on your local environment that will help to improve our understanding of Scotland’s environment as a whole and take action to improve it. This will be developed in a future phase of the website.
